Lime - Citrus ×
Aurantifolia / Hystrix / Latifolia / Various
There are two main groups of Limes grown commercially around the world - West Indian (Mexican) lime (Citrus aurantifolia), also known as Key lime, and Tahiti lime (Citrus latifolia), also known as Persian lime. Like most citrus, Limes prefer minimal frost, without snow or strong winds and consistent warm conditions. They can thrive in sheltered coastal conditions.
Mexican Key (West Indian) limes seem to do best in our cooler climates than the Tahitian lime varieties, but they do need good frost protection. Bearss limes are the hardiest of the Tahitian limes, but will still need decent frost protection.
