Orin is a medium-large-sized apple with cream-coloured firm flesh. Sweet and juicy it is said to have hints of honey, pear and pineapple flavours and very low acid.
Best for fresh eating, Orin is a good choice of apple for use in salads due to its sweetness and crunch. Originally bred in Fukushima, Japan from a cross of Golden Delicious and Indo - and is the sister apple of the popular 'Mutsu/Crispin' apple which is often sold commercially.
A good keeper, it will keep up to 4 months in cold storage.
