A fast-growing, stately tree with large, ornamental leaves, the English Walnut is often planted as a specimen tree. It produces sweet, edible nuts and thrives in full sun, preferring deep, fertile, well-drained soil. However, it does not tolerate clay soils. This tree can reach a height of about 20 meters with a similar spread, making it better suited for very large gardens. It's important to note that the roots can be allelopathic, producing a substance that can inhibit the growth of certain other plants nearby, so care should be taken when deciding on its planting location.
